More Clemson Bloggers Bite the Dust: R.I.P. Shakin' The Southland's Founders

Yep, found out about this a bit late.  Seems Dr B. and FigureFour -the founders of Clemson website Shakinthesouthland-- have quit the website.  The website is still out there, "under new management," but the original guys and their much-loved comments and game-film analysis are gone.  This caused the usual bouts of gloom and doom in the comments, followed by the inevitable "start our own damn website!" lobby.  They dutifully did it and the result is...well, let's be honest.  It's basically what this website was many years ago when Chili and Willy Mac shut down Block-C.  Lots of people high-fiving and chest bumping at first and now...now there is only myself and "thedabokoolaid" and he pops up only when he gets out of jail on work-release.

Blogging is tough and I have the utmost respect for the STS guys for doing it as long and as frequently as they did.  I would think SBNation made thousands of dollars a month off STS, while DocB has stated that he made enough each month only to pay a cable bill.  Lots of rumors swirling around the blogosphere of lawsuits, of Clemson's AD being involved with SBNation putting pressure on DocB...weird stuff, really.  Given the players involved, I'm surprised that there isn't talk of perennial STS boogey-man Joey Batson being behind it all.  Maybe it was the training table lobby!  Those SOBs play dirty.

Regardless, it's sad to see the founders of STS leave.  Did they ever explain why they named it after the motto of the Clemson Marching Band?  Will they start their own website?  Who knows.  I wish everyone the best.  If anyone can pull it off, guys, it's you.

  1. They knew what they were getting into when they signed the site up with SBNation. They essentially sold their soul to the devil, which is hilarious with their earlier "Devil's Playground" post. DocB and FigureFour couldn't keep it up and so they had the site taken away, as per the agreement with SBNation. All this talk about the various conspiracy theories is just ridiculous. It is comparable to being in a trig class, knowing you have to study for the final and then failing the final. These guys KNEW they had to maintain a certain amount of work to keep the $$$ coming every month and also to keep control of the content and they blew it.

So sad to me that losers have set up a website to eulogize their "passing" when if only DocB had reached out to these guys for help, he would still have control of the site he founded. I guess you all know that his claims to "inside information" is a load of shit, as his claims of ties to the Clemson administration. While he was never as big of a jerk as Chili or Willy Mac to posters on their forum, DocB was pompous and always appealed to "inside information." Well, now that is all out the window. I cannot wait to see how this shakes out.

    2. I don't blame the guys for "selling their souls" at all. They thought they were heading for the Big Time and took a gamble. They were riding high for awhile and did a damn good job.

I always thought DocB and Co. were gentlemen in the comments area, maybe more so than necessary. I think everybody knew they didn't have THAT MUCH inside info. Maybe a little here and there. Regardless, sad to see the founders leave. And, yeah, Willy Mac and Chili could be real dicks, right out of the blue and for no real reason, either.

  2. Its hard to blog from the side of the road in an orange vest with a guard breathing down my neck. Ditches don't have WiFi! I wish I knew where the majority of the Block-C crowd went. Tigernet is nothing but cocks and sunshine pumpers. Just having to check them for news makes me wanna rehire and then fire Rob Spence again out of spite.

Good to hear from you. Glad you were able to pickup some wifi there along the side of I-26!

Yes, the old Block-C guys are all huddling around the new "refugee" STS site, so drop in and say hello before the new wears off and they all disappear again. BTW, someone posted that Willy-Mac is the proprietor of "Brewery 85" a new micro-brew place. Might wanna check it out when you get out of the "Greybar Hotel" again. Take care, brother!
